Higher Education Options for Generation Z

Generation Z students are on track to become the most educated generation. They have higher high school graduation rates and lower dropout rates than those who came before. In 2018, 57% of 18- to 21-year-olds were in college, compared with 52% of Millennials and 43% of Gen Xers at similar ages.

The pandemic forced students to think broadly about their lives and careers.

Born in 1995 and later, Gen Z includes 74 million young people, about 24% of the population. Generation Z grew up with cell phones, had Instagram before starting high school, and doesn’t recall a time before the internet. Gen Z is all grown up and ready for college!

  • Gen Z students have access to knowledge everywhere. They have become accustomed to finding instant answers on Google during homework or mealtimes. In the same way that previous generations read magazines or watched TV, Gen Z students seek constant information and entertainment through YouTube videos.
  • They are familiar with personalization and are used to the quick communication that texting and status updates provide. As a result, they expect faster feedback from everyone on all matters.

Elite universities are prestigious but not necessary. Companies have learned to look beyond college credentials to find best-fit candidates for positions. Gen Z needs to keep up with the times, no matter how they decide to learn.

Keeping up with the trends and technologies will require consistent monitoring trade and industry developments and acquiring and maintaining competence with new products as they enter the marketplace. Today’s students need affordable learning opportunities that keep them ahead of the learning curve.
