Data collected by US News & World Report reveals that the average tuition at U.S. private colleges has risen by approximately 4% in the past year, reaching just under $40,000 annually.
The cost for a public in-state school was $10,500, representing an annual increase of 0.8% for in-state students and approximately 1% for out-of-state students. Last year, the average student at a private four-year college paid $32,800 for tuition and room and board.
